As FCCLA begins, they recap what happened last year and where FCCLA hopes to go this year. FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. The advisor of FCCLA is Mrs. Swanson and the president is Shyann Radach. We asked Shyann what being the president of FCCLA is like. She said that being the president has been an “…interesting, but fun experience.” She also said that being the president has gotten her much more used to speaking in front of people and made her more confident.
Emily Swanson and Kate Croci went to state and nationals for food innovation last year.
“FCCLA state and nationals were a blast. I got to meet new people and see parts of the world I hadn’t seen before,” Emily Swanson says.
When asked if she recommended doing food innovation, Kate Croci says, “I would recommend food innovations because you learn a lot about creating a design, how to make a nutrition label and how to market to a target audience.”
Shyann has not done a star event (like food innovation) but she was an evaluator for two years. “… It [being an evaluator] has been a wonderful experience! It’s great for you if you’re not sure about doing an event. You get to see how it will be and how evaluation works.”
Overall, Shyann says that FCCLA is a fun club to be a part of. You get to travel, hang out with other members, and meet new people from around the state.
