Recently, smoke has been the bearer of bad news for girls’ soccer; games have been canceled, practices have been moved, changed, and even canceled. This can be very aggravating because it’s an uncontrollable situation that affects the CHS girls’ soccer team. The month of October has been a challenging time for players to work soccer into their lives because the schedule has been so unpredictable.
Captain Alyssa Soria says, “I can see how it is affecting how we play just because the day before [their most recent game]… we did poorly” because the smoke caused the practice schedule to continually change. The Bulldogs beat Wahluke 3-0, but last time they played them, they beat them by a higher margin. The smoke isn’t just affecting practices; it’s affecting the girls’ performances.
Soria also says, “I think the smoke unmotivates us because it’s annoying when our games get moved.” A game against College Place was canceled due to poor air quality and was only rescheduled for the varsity girls.
