On Monday, October 20, two sophomore students stood outside the Cashmere High School school store after it raised the price of its Popcorners, a popular air-popped chip that many Cashmere students have grown to love, from $1 to $2, a 100% increase.
“I feel like protesting against the Popcorners prices . . . is what needs to be done to help people buy more Popconers . . .” Ceja said. He feels that doubling the prices will not help the overall sale numbers of the snacks.
“Just Monday morning, going up to the store and seeing instead of the one dollar price and just seeing two dollars . . . it kind of shocked me. It should’ve been one dollar like it has been these last couple weeks,” Ceja described his outrage at seeing the new prices. He stated that he hopes that the prices will go back to how they were before.
Thomas Tran, the other protestor, was also interviewed. “I did not like the price on the Popcorners. It made me very angry.” Tran feels that there was not a big impact of the protest. “Nobody looked my way. I don’t think it worked.”
Will the work of these brave students be felt? Will the prices go back to normal? Will Popcorners become accessible again? Only time will tell.
