The regular season is over for the Cashmere High School football team, and the squad is geared up for a deep postseason run. The Bulldogs’ postseason starts in the round of 24, where they will take on the 4-4 Kalama Chinooks.
Kalama is coming off a 33-0 win over Castle Rock last Friday. They are led by Junior QB Henry Sidfrigson. Sidfrigson is a dual-threat quarterback. He loves to run the ball, but when he throws it, his favorite target is fellow Junior WR Ben Brightbill. Kalama will come into Cashmere on Saturday afternoon and look to shock the state and take down the #2-ranked Cashmere Bulldogs.
As for the #2-ranked squad in the state, the Bulldogs are coming off a 59-0 wipeout against the Naches Valley Rangers on Thursday night. They finished their season 8-1 with their only loss coming in overtime to the 5 straight 1A state champions, the Royal Knights.
If the Bulldogs are able to take care of business on Saturday afternoon, they will most likely receive a bye week in the first round of the state tournament.
When Senior captain Joseph Acton was asked how he could help the team stay in the moment and make sure they secure a spot in the state tournament. He shared. “The leaders have to be a positive influence. We all have to put in the time off the field by watching film either before school or later at night with my teammates.”
For the Bulldogs, this is a great opportunity to be in a great position for a deep run. As for Kalama, they will look to pull off the upset of the year in the 1A classification. Kickoff is Saturday at 2 pm at Cashmere High School Football Stadium.
