On September 4th, the Cashmere Bulldogs Girls’ Soccer team took a 4-hour trip to the Canadian border to battle the Lynden Christian Lyncs in the season opener for LCHS. The final score was 3-1. Cashmere Bulldogs had many goals for themselves after the game.
Coach Dennis Tronson had some words about his team’s performance.
“Going on the road for athletics affects your legs as you start to sit because there’s not a lot of movement or space on a school bus, so players’ muscles will tense up.” Head coach Dennis Tronson further explains why road games are less effective than home games. “The longer the bus ride, the longer the warm-up tends to be.”
Cashmere Girls Soccer faced this team for the first time last year as well. The final game score was 1-2 at home. CHS Girls’ Soccer works all summer for this league opener. With the new league CHS joined, this won’t be the only 4-hour bus ride. Girls’ Soccer pushes themselves harder and harder each day, mentally and physically preparing themselves for more teams like this in the future.
Coach Tronson also says, “We try to put them in situations that’ll simulate what they’ll see in the game so that there are no surprises.” He and Coach Anya Belcher push these girls on the right track for success. Last year, CHS made it to the Final Four for the first time since 2012 with a record of 16-2 in the regular season.
Captains Annabelle Flick, Erin Irelan, and Alyssa Soria are the hearts of the team. Annabelle Flick says, “I just want everyone to get along because I feel like that connection helps us with success.” She wants to help build team connection, especially because it’s needed in challenging games like this. “I try to be loud and encouraging, but the main thing I do is step down and always put the team’s needs before myself.”
