The Cashmere High School volleyball team has started its 2025 season strong with a 2-0 record after sweeping its first two home matches. On Saturday, September 6, they opened their season with a dominant performance against the College Place Hawks, winning in three straight sets. The Bulldogs followed this up with another impressive sweep against the Wahluke Warriors on Tuesday, September 9.
The Bulldogs will face a significant challenge as they travel to the Yakima SunDome on Friday, September 12, for the SunDome Volleyball Festival. This early-season tournament draws 32 of the top small-school varsity teams from across the Northwest. The festival is quickly becoming an elite early-season tournament in Washington.
Cashmere will play 3 pool play matches on Friday:
9:00- Cashmere vs. Napavine
11:00- Cashmere vs. Overlake
1:00- Cashmere vs. Darrington
Depending on their performance in pool play, the Bulldogs have a chance to play an additional three games later in the day. The championship is at 7:25, making for a long day of competition.
Despite the challenge, the team remains confident.
“I think we’re ready to face high-level teams,” junior setter Cali Diaz said. “We’ve been preparing all summer, and we’ve had good practices where we’re focused and dialed in”.
Fellow Junior Outside Hitter Teagan Kerns was asked how she thinks her team will respond to possibly playing six games in a day, “I think potentially playing six games in a day is definitely a challenge, but with past club experiences, we’re definitely used to it”, said Kerns. “We’ve built stamina through preseason conditioning, so I think we’re ready for it”.
Many of the Bulldogs have club volleyball experience, where long tournament days are normal. A factor that could give the Bulldogs an edge in Yakima.
The team will depart from Royal on Thursday and head straight to Yakima for a full day of action. With the way the Bulldogs have started their season, fans might want to prepare for a full day of volleyball at the Sundome.
