This past weekend, on Saturday, September 13, the CHS girls’ swim team competed in Wenatchee, their first “real” competition of the season. These seven girls have put in a ton of work over the last month, and say they are always preparing for that next step, reflecting on how their meet went on Saturday.
Overall, the team did amazing and had great times on their races, especially at the beginning of the season.
Senior Eliana Thomas said, “It was our first real meet in the season, and I think we dropped time in all of our events. I think I dropped 6 seconds in my 200 free time from last year”.
Lots of improvement is expected from these girls, and they are excited to continue the season.
While this particular race consisted mostly of short-distance races, Thomas says she prefers long-distance races, while Joseph prefers short-distance races. When freshman Jordyn Joseph was asked for her opinion, this was her answer.
“When you do long distance, you have to be slower. When you do short distances, you can be much faster. The cold water really makes me want to go fast, but when I do long distance, I try to be fast, but then end up being really slow.”
After talking about the challenges of short and long-distance swimming, Jordyn shared what made her actually enjoy the sport in the first place:
“I really do like swimming. Before, I was kind of nervous about doing swimming, but I found out the people are really nice, and I really enjoyed doing swimming ‘cause of the people too.”
On Thursday, September 18, the girls will head to Davis to swim in another meet, ready to conquer the pool.
