As the school year progresses, it’s time to welcome a new season of Knowledge Bowl. Knowledge Bowl is a team “quiz bowl” competition where students compete against teams from other schools in a written question round and several oral question rounds. The Washington state high school Knowledge Bowl season starts in a few short months, and CHS’s team is gleefully awaiting it.
“State.” Says senior and major candidate for CHS Knowledge Bowl captain Quentin Christensen about what he’s looking forward to for Knowledge Bowl. “Or regionals. Or just competing in general.”
“Seeing what new freshmen are on the team,” says Sophomore Oscar Green when asked the same question, “cause we’re losing some seniors this year, so we’re going to need new members.”
Cashmere’s knowledge Bowl team did very well last year, making it to state at Wenatchee and placing 7th in 1A schools. However, a lot of the team’s success can be attributed to former team captain Henry Brown of the Class of 2025, who has since graduated. Brown scored a huge amount of Cashmere High School’s points the past two seasons. With him now graduated, there have been some worries that the team won’t place nearly as well this year. However, members are confident that they’ll continue as strong as ever.
“He was definitely a key person on the team,” Christensen says, “but we all have to pick up a little slack. I think we’ll do fine.”
Although Henry Brown is gone from the team, members are certain that they’ll make it to Knowledge Bowl State this year.
“Yes,” Christensen says on if the team will go to state, “There are three teams in our district, and last year we destroyed Cascade [one of the three], so I’m pretty confident.”
Despite the potential challenges with Brown’s absence and finding a new captain, the Knowledge Bowl team is still going full force into the upcoming season.“I’m sure we’ll struggle a little bit,” Green says, “but I know with new members we’ll be able to persevere just fine.”
