After placing 4th in the state tournament last year, the girls’ soccer team has a lot to prove. The girls are determined to grow chemistry through the team and not let the loss of senior players affect their high expectations this year. A lot of what happens before games determines the outcome.
When big games come up, the Bulldogs are more than prepared to face any opponent. Senior and captain Annabelle Flick makes sure that the girls are “all focused, especially in the practices leading up to [big games].”
Coaches make sure to get the girls ready days prior to gameday. Peyton Irelan, sophomore, who’s a big part of the Bulldogs’ varsity defensive line, knows how important preparation for games can be. “We make sure to set the mood in the locker room, to decompress ourselves and get the nerves out before playing a big opponent.” Peyton says, “Practices leading up to gameday are also important because how you train is how you play, so we make sure to practice like we are in a gameday everyday.”
Off the field the Bulldogs also keep their bonds strong by doing team activities such as taking hikes, team dinners, and after practice team hangouts. Starting varsity goalkeeper Ellie Creiglow says they do an equal amount of chemistry building and training on the field such as “triangle passes, and a team favorite, UNCs.”
