Technology is making people get isolated from their social life. They tend to forget all about their friends, family, basically their whole life outside of their phones.
Take two of the most popular forms of social media: Instagram, with 77 million monthly users and Snapchat, with 52 million. Do you really feel like you’re making a lasting connection with someone when you like their photo or open a snap?
People rely on social media; they don’t make friendships without them. People meet each other through apps on their phones. Relationships are made through dating apps or social media, shopping isn’t made by going to the store, people just buy their necessities online and get them delivered.
Experts also confirmed that too much social media usage can cause emotional harm. A 2017 study found that heavy social media users were three times more likely to feel socially isolated than casual users. Individuals with extreme beliefs often seek out lonely people on social media and discussion forums to spread harmful worldviews. Extremism takes advantage of people’s loneliness and anger, giving them a sense of belonging and community while flooding them with hostile content
This has to STOP. Technology isn’t going to make your life more positive. While there will be some pros about phones there are way too many cons. Social media might be a place you feel like you can express yourself better by photos and videos, but do you truly wish to build yourself with all that? Do you really want to build friendships or relationships by sliding on someone’s DM’s? Technology is affecting you. You just don’t notice because you’re too focused on seeing who’s viewing your post or how many likes you got on a picture.
