Is it worth it to shorten the school week by 2.5 hours for Hoco Activities?
With Homecoming week here, there are activities after first block every day this week. This means that the High School is on an advisory schedule the entire week. This shortens each block by 5 minutes, which over the entire week, equates to 2.5 hours out of the classroom.
Students as well as a teacher were interviewed about whether they thought it was worth it to shorten classes. Junior Jayson Gonzalez-Garcia had this to say, “I think it’s worth taking two and a half hours out of the school week because Homecoming week only happens once a year”. In addition to this, Gonzalez also stated he believes the school should let students out two hours early on Friday. First-year Cashmere teacher Brandin Eygabroad agreed with Gonzalez, saying the Talent Show helps build community with the students and allows students to support each other and make memories they will have forever.
However, of course, there are cons to go with pros. Gonzalez stated a possible drawback. “There would be a lot more work on the following Monday to make up the lost time.” Even so, Sophomore Nathan McDaniels thinks that it is definitely worth it.
