Have you ever wondered what school would be like if teachers let you use your AirPods during work time in class? This is a controversial topic because to some people, music is an additional distraction, while for others, music is a motivation to focus. The truth is, listening to music would be way more beneficial not only to the students but also to the teachers.
Students would be more focused, and teachers would not have to worry about talking to their peers. Students are eager to use music so it would be beneficial to let them if it helps them with learning.
Studies show that listening to thirty minutes of calming music lowers pain and anxiety. According to Healthline, music and working out stimulate our bodies similarly. Teachers should let students have individual music because it would benefit focus and motivation. Over 60% of students excel with music in the background.
In the New York Post, they did a study on Americans who listen to music while studying, and two-thirds have a more successful focus while listening to music. 31% of students listened to classical music, 28% listened to R&B, and another 28% listened to country while studying, which increased their focus by 60%. Instead of seeing music as a distraction, teachers need to have more empathy for students and understand that music isn’t just silly words thrown into a beat; it’s a learning tool that needs to be utilized more.
Music has helped me a lot. Through the long, boring days in class, to loud, unproductive days, music cancels out my distractions. When I have The Lumineers in my headphones, I get things done.
