Cashmere, on Monday, December 8th, partook in its first Knowledge Bowl meet. The meet was held at Cashmere High School, the only home meet of the season. For those who don’t quite know how Knowledge Bowl works, it is essentially a trivia competition, with topics ranging from past presidents to calculus to Charles Dickens. Knowledge Bowl has a question for everyone, and the first meet went great.
Brooke Chalmers, CHS knowledge bowl president, said, “. . . there [were] a lot of freshmen on my team, and I think that they did a really good job and they all got points.” She also spoke of how it was only her second time being a captain, and she got to figure out how to run things to get the most points.
CHS’s team consists of around 16 members and is advised by CHS teacher Mr. Valerie. For this first meet, the CHS crew was somewhat randomly placed into three teams: Cashmere 1, Cashmere 2, and Cashmere 3. Cashmere 1 consisted of President and Captain Brooke Chalmers, Treasurer Annika Peterson, Maddie Dorsey, Nahum Corbaley, and Kayden Hansborough. Cashmere 2’s members were captain and vice president Quentin Christensen, Jackson Meloy, Domenic Emerson, and Michah Meloy. Lastly, Cashmere 3 was captain Georgia Hemmer, Ella Gemeinhart, Judah Lewis, Allie Neff, and Ian Vrandenburg.
The final placings at the end of the meet were Wenatchee 1 with an impressive total score of 53 points. Tied for second were Manson 1 and Cascade 1, both with scores of 27. In fourth, following close behind, was Cashmere 2, with a total score of 25.
Senior and long-time knowledge bowl member Quentin Christensen said, “It also kind of, like, helped figure out what the competition’s like this year,” when asked about how he thought it went.
All in all, the CHS Knowledge Bowl Team is excited for the upcoming meets (schedule below) and is looking forward to seeing how they improve, both as a team and as individuals.
