CHS is putting together the musical “Once Upon a Mattress,” and with its allstar cast and experienced orchestra, it is bound to be a hit. The orchestra has been rehearsing after school to prepare for the musical.
Oliver, who is a sophomore at CHS, plays the trombone in the orchestra. His favorite part of being in orchestra is when they start rehearsing with the actors. In order to prepare for the show, he has to put in practice, Oliver says, “I put quite a bit of practice into orchestra both in and out of rehearsal, since the music this year is pretty difficult.”
Oliver also says, “I am most excited for our full dress rehearsals because that is when everything starts to sound really good.”
The hardest part of being in orchestra for Oliver is concentrating and staying motivated even when the music can be hard. Oliver also says that it’s a fun way to get to know people, “I am looking forward to the few cast practices we have because it is a good time to get to know everyone involved.”
Adele Esmond, is a Junior at CHS, and she plays the drumset in orchestra. Her favorite part of being in orchestra is the sense of community, and the sense of accomplishment after a show.
Adele says that the orchestra practices quite often, “We meet nearly everyday after school starting after Thanksgiving break until after the show. We meet for two hours most days.”
Adele said the hardest part of being in orchestra for her is doing the dress rehearsals every night during the semester one finals, she also said it’s worth it. Adele is looking forward to being in orchestra. She says, “Again, the sense of community. That’s always what makes band fun!”
The opening night of “Once Upon a Mattress” will be showing on January 30th, 31st, February 5th, 6th and 7th.
