After a devastating penalty shootout resulting in a loss to the Bush High School, who went on to place 2nd in the state tournament last year, the Cashmere Boys Soccer team is working on perfecting their chemistry during the offseason, holding weekly indoor seasons led by Coach Florres.
Soccer is a team sport that requires each player to do their job to their full ability for the team to succeed. Senior Ivan Gonzalez explains that coming into the new year, “We are going to have a better mentality going into games, and don’t be overly confident.” Other teammates agreed with Ivan and are all focused on the upcoming season.
A good team’s season doesn’t start on the first day of practice, you need to have chemistry with your teammates and you need to work on your skills in your free time. Coach Flores helps the team by coaching them each Sunday, holding practices and helping the team compete during the offseason. Coach Florres explains how he takes players to a tournament held at Omak to build chemistry and get the players some playing time.
The team has many goals for the upcoming season. Coach Florres says one of them is, “[To] be top 3 in the league, to get into districts, and make a run in state for the third year in a row.” The team also has many highlights from last year, taking the #2 place in state after penalties and having a very dominant win over Highland, the score being 2-0.
A player to look forward to watching would be Tommy Batanoiu, who, according to Coach Florres, has grown a lot over the offseason and is playing for one of the best clubs in Washington: Crossfire ECNL, This has made his game speed, and knowledge of the game in general, improve.
Every student should be prepared to go watch these absolute dawgs ball out when soccer season comes!
