Last Wednesday, on December 10, 2025, a valley-wide power outage occurred, knocking out power from around 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm in Cashmere. This occurred due to the current flooding situation. For many, this power outage was not only surprising, but dangerous. One student even said, “…We almost got crushed by powerlines,” in a form sent out to CHS students on Friday, December 12, only two days after the accident.
Alvaro Ferrer-Sierra explained how he felt the situation was similar to the fictional TV show on Netflix, Stranger Things. “[I was] scared! It felt like Stranger Things. We thought [Vecna] got us.”
Another CHS student said, “I thought someone was breaking into our house.” Though others were more nonchalant in describing their reaction. “I literally just said, ‘Oh. Okay, I guess… Cool.’ [I] closed my computer (I got flashbanged) and sat there for a second processing what just happened before going over to talk to my parents and continue as normal.”
In the survey sent out to students last Wednesday, CHS students were asked where they were during the power outage.
This graph shows that 39, or 63.9%, of the students who responded were at home. 12 or 19.7% were at school, and 10 or 16.4% were somewhere else. Responses for “Other” varied from being in Spokane to just driving around Cashmere and Wenatchee.
When asked who they were with, 33 of the students who responded said family, 9 said Nobody, and 19 said Friends/Classmates.
Although this was scary and dangerous for most, it also served as an opportunity to connect with the community even more. Stay safe out there, Bulldogs!
