The Cashmere girls’ soccer season came to a close on Saturday, November 15, after they suffered a devastating loss against the Monteseno Bulldogs. The Cashmere girls’ soccer team had an outstanding season with a season record of 19-3. The Bulldogs started the season with a loss against the now number 3-ranked Lynden Christian Lynx. After that loss, the Bulldogs went on an impressive 14-game winning streak, scoring an incredible 73 goals along the way while only conceding 7.
The Bulldogs’ winning streak would come to an end against the Naches Valley Rangers, losing to them with a score of 5-0, even though the Bulldogs beat them earlier in the season 2-1. That loss also ended the Bulldogs’ impressive 27 unbeaten streak in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs kept winning after that, and they started getting prepared for the district championship against the Naches Rangers. They had a tough battle with double overtime, and the score was 0-0. In the final seconds, Naches fouled Cashmere in the box, and the Bulldogs got one last chance, a PK! With Gwen Ledesma making the final shot, the Bulldogs defeated the Rangers 1-0.
After claiming the district title, the Cashmere girls’ soccer team went on to play the number 12-ranked Tenino Beavers in the round of 16 match. They went on to defeat with a score of 6-3 to advance to the final 8. The Bulldogs headed to Montesano on November 15, in hopes of advancing to the semi-finals. All those hopes were crushed after Montesano went up 1-0 shortly after the second half started. The game played out, eventually ending with a score of 1-0, ending the Bulldogs’ season.
Even though the Bulldogs’ season came to a close, they still accomplished many great things. Bulldogs Gwen Ledesma, Brynne Patrick, Alyssa Soria, and Addie Talley won first-team SCAC. All of the players who achieved first-team honors will be returning with the exception of senior Alyssa Soria. Addie Talley said, “As a team, I think we did really well. We went on to the quarter finals, even though we lost our top scorer, Ginny, and a lot of other starters.”
The girls had incredible stats also, scoring a whopping 141 goals and only getting scored on 20 times. The person behind more than 25 goals was junior Brynne Patrick and then Makelah Gatens, not far behind with more than 20. However, without assist leader Gwen Ledesma there would be far fewer goals. Overall, the girls achieved a successful season and hope they carry their success into the future.
