You may have seen a new face in the halls of Cashmere High School. Her name is Amanda Scacalossi and she is visiting Cashmere from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
She is staying with CHS sophomore Maggie Butcher and her family until the end of Christmas break. When asked what the main difference between school in Brazil and Cashmere is, she said,”School here is more dynamic. Teachers have their classes and students move around and in Brazil it’s more theoretical. We have our classes and the teachers walk around.’.
Growing in Sao Paulo, Amanda says the culture is very diverse and the weather can be a bit cold at times. She talked about Brazilian food like feijoada and other dishes from home.
She also shared a little about the soccer culture, one of Brazil’s biggest passions. ‘’The soccer culture is very present in all the states,” Amanda said.’’ But it’s difficult to become a professional because schools don’t have sports the same way they do here. You have to train on your own, so it’s hard to become professional.” When asked who her favorite soccer player is she said, “Neymar, of course, is my favorite soccer player”.
Amanda says she hopes to experience American high school life, learn more about the culture and see what’s its like living in a small town like Cashmere
