NEWS: Category 5 hurricane Melissa is currently destroying the shores of south western Jamaica. This hurricane is reported to be the worst storm since hurricane Gilbert in 1988. Winds are reaching speeds of up to 195 mph and up to 40 inches of rain, and it is life threatening. There have been 7 confirmed deaths already. Hurricane Melissa’s landfall is one of the most powerful in the Atlantic Basin recorded in history, the National Hurricane Center said. Sophia Farquharson, a resident of Jamaica said, “It’s crazy down here. Trees are falling over everywhere and electric wires are falling down¨.
According to the national weather association, Jamaica will be unrecognizable after this hurricane is done. NBC news also stated that Hurricane Melissa is worse than Katrina. Hurricane malissa is expected to hit land on Tuesday October 28 and is expected to pass by and head towards the Bahamas on Thursday.
