As quarter one comes to a close at CHS, it is a great time to reflect on the incredible projects made by the students in Mr. Stewart’s robotics class.
With so many students working on so many projects in robotics, there are a lot of interesting and unique robots that have already been built or are still being designed. Here, you’ll get a chance to hear about some that seemed to stand out.
Starting with Junior Ben Starr’s drag race code, which proved very successful, as you’ll see later on. Starr was asked about this project, and he had this to say. “A big assignment we did was a drag race with code.” Starr and his partner, Sarah Stewart, teamed up for the assignment and took second in the race, which involved racing a robot from one side of Mr. Stewart’s classroom to the other. “Sarah built the robot, I coded it,” said Starr. Starr would also go on to state that he has lots of experience in robotics, most specifically when he won an award in robotics against high schoolers while he was still in Elementary school.
Another cool robotics project is by Sophomore Xander Hall, which he is still actively working on. He’s building a robot with a claw on it. And it is currently about 3 hours into the project. “It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely pretty happy with the results so far,” said Hall, reflecting on his project.
However, possibly the most advanced robot is that of Sophomore Cooper Hauck. “I made a robot that can drive, turn, and pick up things with a claw. I’m currently still working on it and am about 3 hours into this project,” stated Hauck. Hauck later said that he is very happy with how his robot has turned out thus far.
A big reason why kids have been able to build such incredible projects in Robotics is that they genuinely enjoy the class, which always makes the work assigned a lot more enjoyable. From Junior Hudson Stone, who said this about whether he liked the class, “I think it’s a very fun class and we learn a lot” to Sophomore Xander Hall, who had this to say, “I like robotics because you get to work with others”. The consensus seems to be that Robotics is a very fun class that you may want to consider next time you have an option to choose it.
