The choirs from the Cashmere School District filled the auditorium with melodies on Wednesday, October 29th, showing weeks worth of practice and passion during their very first fall concert. The students performed a variety of classics that showed off their talent and hard work.
The Choir director, Mr. Adam Ream, was interviewed and asked if there were any specific challenges in preparing for this concert. Ream responded with, “I’ve never held a concert that wasn’t in the same building that the class was taught in, so one of my big challenges was the logistics of all the classes walking to the middle school each day and losing class time during the transition. I’ve also never worked at a school that provided the concert clothes to the students, so checking out dresses and tuxes was new to me. Luckily, my wife came to the rescue and was able to sew and alter a dozen of the dresses so they all fit the students. “
Ream was also asked what his favorite song was from the concert. His response was, “My favorite song of the night was Bright Morning Stars. It is a beautiful text and melody, but what I loved the most was how much students liked singing a more classical piece of music.”
According to Wikipedia, “Bright Morning Star” is a traditional Appalachian spiritual song that has been sung by numerous folk artists, and was popularized in the folk revivals of the 1960s and 70s, particularly by The Young Tradition.
When interviewed about what he hoped the audience would take away from the performance, Ream replied with, “My hope is that the audience left the performance feeling happy that they got to experience it and looking forward to the next one.” Ream definitely caught the attention and spotlight of parents, proving that he is serious when it comes to making the choir succeed.
