At Cashmere High School students have the chance to do internships. This gives the students an opportunity to make connections, learn from employers, and build their resumes.
There are also many benefits to doing an internship at the place where the student works.
Carina Romero is one of these students. She chose the Enzian Inn. She started interning there at the beginning of the school year.
Carina Romero said, “The main reason why I’m [working at the Enzian Inn] for my internship is because it will look good on my resume. It also teaches me a lot of stuff like communication and how working isn’t always easy.” She continued, “The best part about doing an internship at my work is that I’m getting paid while doing it”.
But then there can also be some cons about doing an internship where students work.“I would say the worst thing about the whole internship is if I get fired or quit, I fail the class,” Romero said.
Carina Romero advises students not to do an internship at the Enziann Inn. She strongly dislikes working and doing an internship at the same time because of the reason for failing the class.
Another student at CHS, Litzy Heredia, is also doing an internship at the Enzian Inn. She seemed more excited to talk about it.
Heredia said, “ In the beginning it was hard trying to memorize everything [about the internship], but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy.”
Heredia went on to explain, “I chose to do this internship because I needed to make my own money.”
Heredia advises students considering an internship at Enzian Inn to do it because it can give you money. She also works there outside of the internship.
Not all internships pay students. Students that have jobs can decide if they want to do an internship or not but if you’re only doing an internship and don’t work there after school, then you don’t get paid.
