Here at CHS, there are many annual events such as spirit weeks, homecoming, and Veterans Day. But one thing is also certain. The community and the school always appreciate food drives at CHS. This year, Equity Club and Key Club have joined forces to make this the best food drive CHS has ever seen. This is a competition between all of the first block classes to….until Wednesday the 19th, students will have a chance to win a pancake breakfast cooked by Principal Mackenzie.
Currently, over 600 points worth of food have been donated in just five days. At this rate, there will be lots of food for those in need at the local food bank. The goal of this food drive is to donate as much food as possible and to help the community as much as CHS can.
Senior Eliana Thomas is leading the many students involved in this project, and she is excited to help the community in all the ways she can, knowing some people need this more than she does. “There is a need in our community for food, especially as the holidays are coming up. We have been given so much that it’s our turn to give back.”
This is the 4th year the food drive has been a part of CHS, and it will likely continue for a long time. In 2021, teachers and students were just as excited as Key Club officers were; Eliana remembered a very competitive year.
She says, “The first year we did it, the teachers got really competitive, and that helped raise a lot more food; it depends on everybody.”
The more people who help with this food drive, the more food the food bank will receive. All of the first block classes have boxes where food can be turned in.
Here is the point value for each item: peanut butter, cold cereal, and hominy for 3 points, soup, chili, and tuna fish for 2 points, and any canned, boxed, or non-perishable food is 1 point.
Help your first block class by bringing in food today!
