Skiers and snowboarders are getting hyped and ready for the snowy winter season, with Mission Ridge opening on November 28th and other ski spots opening soon.
Maggie Butcher says, “I’m excited because we are already getting snow and I’m hoping we will have good snow this season.” Butcher continues, “I like how Mission Ridge is small and there aren’t a lot of lines and there are a bunch of fun on and off-trail things that you can do!” The last time she was on the slopes was in March, and she says it’s been too long!
Kids who love winter sports have to wait until there is snow to do the sport they love, but now it is almost time to put the boots back on and jump into this season.
Makelah Gatens says, “I’m excited to be on the slopes and spend time with my family.” She also can’t wait for the powdery snow weather, then getting to sit in the warm lodge with hot chocolate.
Mission Ridge is the go-to spot for our valley, with Stevens Pass’ crazy prices and ski hills’ super tiny hill. Speaking of prices, skiing and snowboarding are not cheap. Gatens says, “It’s way too expensive, but everyone in the valley wants to ski, but we get a family pass that I don’t pay for, . . . it’s about $500 for gear each year.”
Depending on the pass or ticket you get, the cost can range from $35 for an evening day pass to almost $1,000 for a season’s pass. The high price of skiing keeps many people off the slopes, but if you can afford the technical and expensive gear, along with a lift ticket, then your season has finally arrived.
