We all remember hearing the age old tale of The Princess and The Pea when we were kids. Well, this classic tale retold is being performed by Cashmere High School in its newest production of Once Upon a Mattress.
If you’ve never heard of Once Upon a Mattress, it’s a bright, fun retelling of the story in a musical comedy. The story follows a young princess named Winnefred, or Fred for short, played by senior Eliana Thomas. It follows her struggle in an attempt to pass several unfair tests made by an unjust Queen named Queen Aggravain, played by Lexi Lutton, senior, in an attempt to gain the Queen’s son’s hand in marriage. Her son is prince Dauntless, played by senior Trip Martin.
The story also features many fun moments, such as when a brave knight named Sir Harry (sophomore Emmett Brown) and his hopeful wife, Lady Larken (junior Makenna Fritz) are desperately trying to get married as a silent king by the name of King Sextimus, played by Dylan Cornea, senior, tries to help them solve their problem.
The musical holds many vibrant and fun dance numbers that everyone will enjoy. From a song about a girl named Fred to an almost impossible dance called the Spanish Panic, audiences will be thoroughly entertained with loads of comical fun.
